How the flooring calculator works
Room area is multiplied by your waste allowance, then divided by the coverage printed on each box. The final purchase quantity rounds up to complete boxes, because partial boxes normally cannot be ordered.
Example
A 14 × 12 ft room contains 168 ft². With 10% waste, the planning area becomes 184.8 ft² before full-box rounding.
Check the package: use the exact square-foot coverage and price for the flooring you are actually considering. Pattern, room shape, installation direction, defects, and future repair stock can affect waste.
Flooring calculator FAQ
Why add waste?
Cutting, layout, damaged pieces, and matching patterns can require more material than the geometric floor area.
Why does the result round up?
Flooring is usually sold by full box, so the shopping quantity must be a whole number of boxes.
Can I use this for laminate or vinyl?
Yes when the product is sold by known box coverage. Enter the manufacturer’s coverage for the exact product.
